CROSSWORDS
"Summertime, and the livin' is easy" . . . but there's still a lot going on at Chapel of the Cross this month! On June 6th there will be a special Worship Service / Memorial Concert at 10:00 am. Leading us in worship will be the Chapel Ringers and the Chapel Singers as well as a number of talented instrumentalists and soloists from our congregation. When Don Scheck - who sang in the choir and was the first director of the Chapel Ringers - passed away two years ago, a number of members of both groups wanted to do a concert in his memory, but is just seemed to be "too soon" at that time. Now is the time, and the concert on the 6th will be in his memory and also in the memory of three other members of Chapel of the Cross who were also part of our music program - Elsie Borgardt, Bev Hecht, and Myron Schrader - as well as all of our other members who are now with the Lord. I hope that you will all want to be a part of this special Service and Concert on June 6th. A team from Chapel of the Cross will again be taking part in this year's Relay for Life at Case High School beginning at 6 pm on June 11th and 12th. Thanks to those of you who donated baked goods for the Bake Sale held at the Educators Credit Union on Memorial Day weekend as well as to all who have purchased snacks or helped in other says. It's still not too late to sponsor one of the team members from our church: Eileen Frederickson, Sue Goldsworthy, Deborah Grieve, Joan Hoppe, Sharon Kristiansen, Eunice Matter, Carole Miller, Audrey Scheck, Becky Schmierer, Howard Shaw, Kathy (Hecht) Smith, Ann Ulrick, Beth Verbeten, Jackie Wahl, or me. Speak to one of us individually or donate on line by going to the Relay for Life Racine website http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=23185&pg=entry, and click on "Donate here." There you can either enter the name of one of our team members or the team name (Chapel of the Cross/Prisoners of Hope) and make your donation. Coming up the end of June will be our Church Picnic on June 27th following the 10:00 am service. Brats, burgers, and hot dogs will be provided. We ask you to provide the rest. A sign-up sheet will be posted soon on the Fellowship Hall bulletin board. I wish you all a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer. See you in church! - Pastor Feldscher
FROM THE LADIES' GUILD
Thanks to all who supported our Breakfast for the congregation on Sunday, May 23rd. We had a great turn-out. All the money we raise goes to support the work we do for Chapel of the Cross. The Ladies' Guild is putting out a new cookbook. Please submit your favorite recipes to Anne Krampitz or Sue Luxem by June 30th. We want to have this ready for our bake sale at the November election For our June meeting, we will meet for lunch at 12:30 pm at Perkins Restaurant on Washington Avenue near Shopko. All ladies of the congregation are invited to join us.
SHORT NOTES
Thanks to all who turned out for the Spring Work Day on May 1st. With your help, a lot got done! Thanks, too, to all those working on landscaping, the new Memory Garden, and all who have volunteered to cut the church lawn over the summer. Thanks to all you have done and continue to do, our church is really looking great! The quarterly meeting of the Voters' Assembly will take place on Sunday, June 6th, following the 10:00 am service and coffee hour. All voting members are encouraged to attend. The Summer Worship Schedule will begin on Sunday, June 13th, when the Sunday morning worship hour will move to 9:00 am until the Sunday after Labor Day. The one exception will be on Sunday, June 27th, when church will again be at 10:00 am, followed by our Church Picnic at 11:15 am. The Board of Missions and Evangelism will again be making sack lunches for the needy on Saturday, June 19th, at 9:00 am. Your help and any donations you might make - food or cash - will be greatly appreciated. For further information, see or call Sue Luxem (835-2239). Our joint Vacation Bible School with Peace Lutheran Church will be held at Chapel of the Cross this year. The dates are July 12th, 14th, 15th, 19th, and 21st, with the closing program on July 22nd. Please note that this year sessions will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday rather than Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Please watch for additional details in next month's newsletter. Coming up in August is our annual Rummage Sale on Aug. 6th and 7th, so start saving those "treasures" which you no longer need but which someone else would love to have. The Men's Club Chicken Bar-B-Que, Car Show, and Family Day will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21st. Always one of the highlights of the summer scene, you will not want to miss it.
